GPO contracts: a starting point for healthcare procurement

A contract number can open a useful procurement conversation. It should not close the questions about staffing, service boundaries, terms or whether the agreement applies to your facility.

Understand the vehicle before assuming the benefit

Premier describes a portfolio of negotiated agreements and different contracting options for healthcare organizations. That creates a route worth exploring, not a universal guarantee of savings or an exemption from every buyer's procurement rules. Explore Premier’s GPO model ↗.

For example, two hospitals considering the same EVS provider may still have different acuity, operating hours, labor requirements and coverage needs. Our recommendation is to assess the operating proposal as carefully as the route used to buy it.

Keep the entity and facility-specific work clear

The supplied RSG capability document identifies Premier Contract No. COND-0096. That reference belongs to RSG; it should not be represented as automatically extending to RVP. Confirm current availability, your organization's eligibility and the exact services and locations covered with the appropriate contracting parties.

  • Entity: which legal company will perform and contract for the work?
  • Coverage: which sites, shifts and service lines are included?
  • Economics: what staffing assumptions, supplies, management costs and exclusions apply?
  • Governance: what approvals, competitive processes and signatories does your organization require?
  • Delivery: which records, inspections and escalation paths will the facility receive?

Compare operating value, not just the route to signature

A low headline price is not a complete operating model. Request a scope that shows what happens when demand changes, an area opens, or a finding requires follow-up. Compare proposals using the same assumptions so omitted work does not appear to be a saving.

RSG's business-development team can help frame that discussion and identify what needs confirmation. This article is procurement guidance, not legal advice, a statement of current contract eligibility, or a promise that an RFP can be bypassed.
